Bay Area Coast Guard Members Volunteer Time to Clean Alcatraz Prison

SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 23, 2006) – A U.S. Coast Guard Senior Chief brushes the silt and dust off the metal bars covering the windows of the galley in the historical prison on Alcatraz Island. Twenty-eight members from Sector San Francisco on Yerba Buena Island and the Integrated Support Command in Alameda provided community outreach and volunteered their time helping the National Parks Service with cleaning 75 cells and the kitchen in what was once an army fort and federal prison.
