Coast Guard Volunteers Time and Resources to Clean Portions of Alcatraz Prison

SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 23, 2006) – U.S. Coast Guard Lt.j.g Nick Osborne finishes sweeping and gathering dirt and dust from the floor in the historical prison galley on Alcatraz Island. Twenty-eight members from Sector San Francisco on Yerba Buena Island and the Integrated Support Command in Alameda provided community outreach and volunteered their time helping the National Parks Service with cleaning 75 cells and the kitchen in what was once an army fort and later a federal prison.
