Coast Guard Searches for Missing Boater

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. - The Coast Guard conducted a search late Saturday evening and Sunday morning for a missing boater in the San Joaquin river.

At 6:57 p.m. on Saturday evening, Coast Guard Station Rio Vista received a report that a 25 year old caucasian male had fallen overboard off the 21-foot boat he was driving in the vicinity of the Stockton deep water channel, and did not resurface after going into the water. The Coast Guard immediately launched a 25-foot small boat from Station Rio Vista, as well as an HH-65 Dolphin Helicopter from Air Station San Francisco to conduct a search in a coordinated effort with the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department Marine Unit. Coast Guard Sector San Francisco also issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast to notify other boaters in the area of the missing person.

Search efforts continued the following morning by Coast Guard Air Station San Francisco, Coast Guard Station Rio Vista, the San Joaquin Sheriff's Department Marine Unit. Additionally, shoreline searches were conducted by San Joaquin Sheriff's Department personnel. 

Neither the person in the water, nor the passenger of the vessel who reported the person in the water, were wearing lifejackets at the time of the incident. 

The search was suspended at 9:00 a.m. Sunday morning, after extensive search efforts into all possible areas.
