(June 25, 2008) ALAMEDA, Calif. - A man was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m. by emergency medical services (EMS) today after being swept off some rocks near Stinson Beach.

 A Good Samaritan contacted 911 at 7:15 p.m. to report that a man was swept into the water after falling off some rocks while fishing. EMS then contacted Coast Guard Sector San Sector San Francisco who immediately dispatched an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Air Station San Francisco and a 47-foot motor life boat from Station Golden Gate which arrived on scene by 7:59 p.m.

The helicopter crew found the man ashore near Stinson Beach with several Good Samaritans attempting to revive him.  He was hoisted aboard the HH-65 helicopter and was then transferred to emergency medical services (EMS) waiting nearby.  After resuscitation attempts were made, the man was pronounced dead by EMS at 8:44 p.m.

 The Coast Guard reminds all persons going on or near the water to ensure they have all required and highly recommended safety equipment in serviceable condition prior to leaving the dock or going near the water, including properly fitting Coast Guard approved life jackets, emergency position indicating radio beacons (EPIRB), flares and properly functioning radio and navigational equipment.
