Vermont native promoted to Coast Guard Admiral

 

ALAMEDA, Calif.  -   A Vermont native was promoted to rear admiral Friday, during a ceremony here on Coast Guard Island.

 

Rear Adm. Robert E. Day was promoted to flag officer by Vice Adm. Clifford Pearson during a change of command ceremony.

 

Day will assume the  position of Deputy Commandant for Command, Control, Communication, Computing and Information Technology and Coast Guard Chief Information Officer in Washington D.C.

 

Capt. Donald J. Rose took over as commanding officer of the Coast Guard Maintenance and Logistics Command Pacific.

Day is married to the former Barbara Lee Cook, daughter of Robert L. Cook and Yvonne Cook, U.S. Coast Guard Retired.  They have a daughter, Allison Day, 21, who attends University of California, Berkeley and a son, Jeffrey Day, 15.

Day’s brother, Richard Day, is the owner of Countryside Glass Corporation, Rutland, Vt.

The U.S. Coast Guard has approximately 40,000 active duty members, and 42 flag officers.
