Coast Guard, Navy & Canadian navy exericse Oct. 4-7, 2004

  • If you get any calls, you can speak about the exercise in very generic terms.
  • There will be military ships, boats and aircraft operating around the Bay area next week.
  • The public is not in any danger.
  • The exercise is designed to test specific aspects of maritime homeland security doctrine and procedures. As matter of policy, we cannot address the specifics behind these procedures and plans. Most of this information is considered secure and/or sensitive information.
  • The Coast Guard, Navy and Canadian Navy are participating.
  • The exercise will be conducted next week.
  • Our desire is for news media to inform the public, so people are not surprised and believe a real event is taking place.
  • We hope to have an opportunity to demonstrate some of our capabilities for the media next week. We will issue a media advisory next week.

You can release some b-role video if needed that shows MSST boats or sea marshals patrolling and securing the port.  See media advisory dated Oct. 1, 2004 for more information.
