Sector San Francisco Members Clean Alcatraz Prison (69.10 KB)
SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 23, 2006) – Lt. Maureen Majewski, of Sector San Francisco, cleans the silt and dust off the metal prison-bar entranceway to the kitchen in the historical prison on Alcatraz Island. Twenty-eight members from Sector San Francisco on Yerba Buena Island provided community outreach and volunteered their time helping the National Parks Service with cleaning 75 cells and the kitchen in what was once an army fort and later a federal prison. SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 23, 2006) – U.S. Coast Guard Lt.j.g Nick Osborne finishes sweeping and gathering dirt and dust from the floor in the historical prison galley on Alcatraz Island. SAN FRANCISCO ( Feb. 16, 2006) - The signal is given, and Air Station San Francisco aircrew drop a flare into San Francisco Bay, near Angel Island, from their HH-65 Dolphin helicopter. Machine Auxiliary Crewman Roger Machin watches and observes the scene and area where the flare was dropped. Auxiliary crewmembers safely guide and steady the basket onto the stern during routine helicopter operations training with an Air Station San Francisco HH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew. SAN FRANCISCO (Feb. 16, 2006) – Auxiliary member Rae Kleinen, a coxswain from Flotilla 17, brings his vessel Sunshine dead in the water and waits for directions over the radio from an Air Station San Francisco HH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew. Kleinen and his crew of four do mock drills with the AirSta during helicopter operations training in San Francisco Bay. San Francisco Receives New Cutter (41.04 KB)
SAN FRANCISCO (Jan. 23, 2006) – (From Left to Right) Rear Adm. Kevin J. Eldridge, Commander Eleventh Coast Guard District, Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi, sponsor of the newly commissioned U.S. Coast Guard Cutter PIKE, and Lt.j.g. Robert A Bixler, Commander of the PIKE, were at Coast Guard Sector San Francisco on Yerba Buena Island this morning for the commissioning ceremony. The 87-foot patrol boat was built by Bollinger Shipyard Inc. of Lockport, La, in September 2005. It employs the latest advances in navigation and marine technology, and is equipped for search and rescue, environmental protection, and maritime law enforcement.
